Downtown Denver

This is a post card I received from my sister on one of her many business travels.

This is a scene of downtown Denver.

I think it is a gorgeous photo. 

It's picture perfect.

My sister is so sweet to take the time to write such detailed letters on a small postcard.

I love finding these in my mailbox.

Jackson Hole, WY 2006

This isn't a vintage card, however, I love ALL post cards.

This is a scene from Jackson Hole, Wyoming and it is a card that I personally sent to my employees while I was on vacation in 2006.

Jackson Hole was extremely cold while we were there and we stayed one night.

It was a cute little town with all kinds of shops and restaurants, etc.

I recall buying a bunch of caligraphy pens while I was in one of the shops,

and I also bought some silver stones that had words on them such as

Dream and Believe

I wish I had taken the time to write more

and to say thank you in a bigger way.

Holiday Inn 1970

We all know this hotel.  It really hasn't changed too much in 35 + years.

No history needed on this one.

The post card isn't very attractive and there's nothing special about the Holiday Inn,

However, I wanted this post card because it is a hotel icon that represents middle America.

The note is short and sweet.

"Driving fine. Everyone is so nice- Love, Dorothy"

Balboa, Ca. 1970

Ah, doesn't this remind you of a beach scene from a Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello Movie?

I really like this post card.  There is nothing better than summer travels and this photo

expresses the fun and relaxation of vacation.

Tinker Swiss Cottage 1919

This Swiss Cottage is located in Rockford Illinois and was built in 1865 by businessman and one-time Mayor Robert Hall.  Today the cottage is a museum open to the public and filled with original furnishings.

The setting is so serene and beautiful.  Doesn't it just make you want to take a stroll around the property?

Letter from a son Sept. 1915

I bought this post card because I really thought the poem was cute.

This is another card from my vintage collection.

Written September 6, 1915

Just a short little note to keep his mother updated.

Isn't that sweet?

The Broadmoor Hotel, Colorado Springs, CO 1950

Today I am posting a beautiful card that showcases the magnificent Broadmoor Hotel.

The hotel is located in Colorado Springs, Colorado and was built in 1891. 

It started out as a gambling hotel casino.

However, in 1897 it was turned into boarding house and a girls day school.

In 1918 the hotel became a five star resort which still holds five star rating today.

The hotel has two golf courses, a tennis club, and a spa.

I have never been to this hotel, nor have I seen it in person, but I have been to Colorado Springs,

and it is a beautiful town.

Idaho Falls 1919

This is the beautiful Idaho Falls in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

My husband and I had the pleasure of seeing the falls during our 2006 vacation.

We stayed at the Best Western Inn which is adjacent to the falls.

It was one of the nicest places where we stayed on our trip.

Don't you just love peeking into other people's travels?

When was the last time you sent a post card to someone?

I just sent a post card to some friends last month from my short trip to Nashville.

Oldest School House

This is one of my favorite post cards.

I love the scene of the children, listening so intently to their teacher;

and the fireplace in the background makes the room appear warm and cozy.

The items on the walls and the mantel add so much to the warmth of the room.

It puts a smile on my face and I wonder what lessons they were learning that day.

This one is dated September 6th, 1936.  

This letter was written 73 years ago today.

I am so blessed to have this little piece of history.

This school house still stands today and allows daily tours.

September Smiles

I love the month of September. 

 It's a celebration of my birthday and my husband's birthday.

It signifies the end of summer and the beginning of holidays to come. 

This is usually the time my husband and I use to take our yearly vacation.  Everyone is back in school and so we avoid all the crowds.

Because today is the first day of September, I thought I would showcase all my postcards that were either written in September or postmarked in September. 

I think my first post card is special because it gives me a glimpse into the history of a department store that no longer exists.

What intrigued me about this post card is that the woman addressed it to National Bella Hess,

one of the largest department store catalogs at the time.

The woman is requesting the fall winter catlogue of 1939-1940
